Nursing and the Information Agenda
Held in March 2012
The growing importance of information management in nursing can no longer be ignored by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) offering healthcare courses.
In March 2012 we organised a symposium for HEIs and healthcare professionals to aid better understanding of the e-health agenda, and what it means for nursing education.
The event highlighted that with the introduction of electronic patient records, remote care and other sophisticated IT health systems, today's nursing students need to be prepared for working in an increasingly information-intensive environment.
Understanding the process of effective information management ensures that nurses and other health professionals deliver high quality and safe patient care - a view supported by our speaker, Jane Smith, National Clinical Lead for Nursing at the Department for Health who identified new technologies as a key training need.
The challenge for Higher Education Institutes is therefore to deliver this education in a flexible and engaging manner and equip nurses with information management and communications technology skills and knowledge.
The symposium included several guest speakers, as well as our own Paula Procter who gave an overview of how we have adapted our portfolio at Sheffield Hallam.
You can download the speaker presentations from the other event pages, as well as access speaker profiles and details about our ICT in healthcare provision - Systems of eCare.
