Health and social care

From hospitals, NHS Trusts and GPs to physiotherapy and social care, we provide services in both primary and secondary care, including

  • bespoke and off-the-shelf professional development courses
  • facilities such as room and equipment hire
  • events
  • research and consultancy
  • internships/placements

We can help you and your healthcare organisation in a variety of ways, whether it’s to develop new products, processes and services or enhance your employees’ knowledge and skills. We can also help you keep up to date with the latest developments in healthcare and provide training on how to use specialist equipment. Because we have our own facilities, any training can be done without any ‘downtime’ for your organisation.

Fresh ideas

It’s often useful to get fresh ideas and a different perspective from experts outside your organisation. We can do that for you and even work in partnership with you on specific research projects. Our team of experts are also on hand to help you solve everyday clinical and organisation problems that might arise.

Ultimately, we’re here to help your organisation improve the healthcare experience for your patients. Together, we can make sure that they receive the care they need, while looking for and implementing preventative measures where possible.

Our expertise

We have a team of experts who specialise in a wide range of areas, including

  • nursing and midwifery
  • physiotherapy
  • occupational therapy
  • radiography
  • radio therapy
  • social work
  • operating departments.

You can also call upon University professionals including paramedics, sport and exercise scientists, psychologists and biomedical scientists.

Research themes

Research is fundamental to the success and development of all healthcare services. Our research expertise primarily covers three core themes

  1. Inequality, inclusion and public health
We examine what determines health inequality and how effective the measures are at reducing it.
  2. Professional development, technology and knowledge, and research into practice
We explore what interventions or models of care will help people, including practitioners, carers and patients themselves, to improve the health of individuals.
  3. Commissioning, service delivery and organisation
We investigate the options available for improving how healthcare services are delivered, both through intelligent commissioning or service configuration. To make sure that healthcare services are meeting patients’ clinical needs, we look at how services and clinical pathways can be redesigned.

In addition, Lab4Living brings together the University's expertise in health, rehabilitation, design, engineering and ergonomics   to develop solutions for the health and social care market. The collaboration also brings in users, consumers and customers to promote user-led design.
