Conference ambassador programme
Conference 21 at Sheffield Hallam University has joined forces with Yorkshire South Tourism (YST), the organisation responsible for raising the profile of Sheffield as a conference destination. Working together, the partnership aims to attract more national and international events to the city through an ambassador programme.
Conference 21, was the first organisation to link up with YST as part of the new initiative, which Lord Robert Winston launched in November 2007. The aim of the programme is to create a network of passionate and motivated 'conference ambassadors' to promote Sheffield as a venue for events, conferences and meetings.
Chancellor Professor the Lord Winston spoke at the Sheffield Hallam University launch:
'Sheffield is a fantastic place which is changing fast, not least in its ability to cater for world class major events. Why not bid to bring your next event to Sheffield? Sheffield's ambassador programme will support you all the way to organise a successful event. Be passionate about what you do, about the University and about Sheffield and help us encourage these events to our city.'

Case study: a perfect example of an ambassador
Simon Polovina, a course leader in the Faculty of Arts, Computing, Engineering and Sciences at Sheffield Hallam University, was general chair of the 15th annual International Conference on Conceptual Structures (ICCS) 2007, held in Sheffield in July. Simon was delighted to be hosting this event and chose to use Conference 21 as event organisers.
ICCS is a well established, worldwide event. This year's visit of the conference to Sheffield was the first time in its history that the event has been held in the city and it proved to be a very popular choice, as many delegates testified.
Simon says, 'One of the long-standing delegates remarked on the excellent acoustics of the Peak lecture theatre. He said it was the first time in his life's experience that he was able to see and hear all the presentations clearly, wherever he sat in the room.'
He adds, 'Conference 21 offered a flexible package outside the usual pre-set choices and assisted in the production of an informative budget according to the event needs.
'Conference 21 was a single point of contact, and staff were always on hand to tirelessly support the event without getting frustrated at all.
'I could never have run ICCS 2007 without Conference 21 and I would not hesitate to use them again'.
