Students celebrate Employee of the Year Awards

Students, staff and external employers came together recently to celebrate Sheffield Hallam's annual SEOTY Awards. The award scheme recognises and promotes the outstanding contributions of students who combine part-time work with their study commitments.

The night featured awards across five categories, including international student employee of the year, on and off-campus student employees of the year, and student employer of the year.

The winning students were Padmanabhan Subramanian, Hannah Hall, Imogen Thomson and Holly Ormrod-Stebbings with Hilton Worldwide claiming the employer award. Find out more about each of the winners' work over the past year on the SLS blog.

Improving the Collegiate Learning Centre

The final phase of work at Collegiate Learning Centre has started and will be completed in late September. Areas affected include the main study areas upstairs and the PC rooms used for teaching. By the end of the work, the building will be completely refurbished – creating a much more inviting place to study.

Improvements will include

• a variety of study spaces with larger desks and power enabled furniture for better laptop access
• upgraded PCs and additional Macs
• improved lighting, decoration and toilets
• new sustainable heating and ventilation system

While the work takes place over the summer, there will be fewer study spaces and some books may not be immediately available. However the building will be open and we'll keep you up to date about alternative study spaces and how to access essential books.

Regular updates about the project will be posted on the Collegiate Redevelopment Blog and in the learning centre foyer. You can also keep up to date by following @shu_library on Twitter.
