Study with us
At the Department of Education, Childhood and Inclusion you're taught by highly-qualified lecturers who are actively engaged in research and professional development. The quality of teaching on our courses is consistently rated as 'excellent' by final year students completing the National Student Survey.
All our students undertake accredited work-related learning as part of their course. We have strong partnership links with a variety of schools and organisations in the education, social care and related sectors, and a dedicated partnership support team. We also offer international placement opportunities to our undergraduate students.
We're committed to your employability, and our graduates go on to find work in relevant professional sectors and to further research and training. And if you're already employed in the sector and want to progress your career we have a range of part-time courses.
In the National Student Survey graduates from our courses rate their overall level of satisfaction as high.
Research
Our academics produce research, articles and textbooks that make a significant contribution to learning and teaching in education, childhood and inclusion. This work is also shared with local, national and international audiences through conferences and seminars.
We have a reputation for high-quality research and scholarship that seeks to make a positive difference to the lives of people within our communities.
The department has particular research strengths in the areas of early years, childhood, autism and the study of disability. We're also home to the Disability Research Forum, a significant national and international network for disability researchers.

Industry links
We work with students from all over the world and our partnerships, both domestic and international, are integral to our work.
For many years we have worked collaboratively with local colleges of further education and the National Autistic Society. More recently we have developed new partnerships with colleges and schools in both Malaysia and Thailand.
We provide opportunities for UK students to gain relevant work experience overseas. We have strong relationships with partners in Ghana, where our early childhood studies students have made pioneering visits.
International links
Our international connections are an integral part of all aspects of our work. We work in partnership with colleagues in a variety of locations, including institutions in Malaysia, Thailand, Ghana, Libya, Germany, China and the USA.
We have undergraduate and postgraduate students from all over the world and our staff are involved in collaborative research and teaching projects with colleagues across Europe, Africa, China and South East Asia.
Many of our students undertake international placements in countries such as Ghana, Germany and the USA.
From January 2013 we'll be delivering our MA Education to teachers and early years professionals in Malaysia and we're planning to extend this to help share the expertise we have with students who don't live in the UK.
