Schools and colleges engagement

We are developing a range of activities and initiatives with local schools and colleges to raise awareness of our courses and inspire young people to consider higher education when deciding their future.

Our schools and colleges liaison manager works alongside liaison managers from other faculties within the schools and colleges liaison office, to develop a joined up approach to the University relationships with schools and colleges, share best practice and pool resources where appropriate.

We have regular open days, and every Wednesday we hold student led campus tours for visitors who want to have a look around. We also offer an accommodation tour which leaves City Campus on Wednesdays at 12.30pm.

Year 11–13 Application advice and interview prep

We have standard interactive presentations to prepare students for applying and interviewing for teacher training courses, which can be delivered as part of a visit to the University, or at your school or college.
Year 11–13 Course and subject talks

Admissions tutors on our courses have presentations about the range of courses in their subject area, and broader information about studying their subject at higher education and where it can lead. These presentations can be delivered as part of a visit to the University, or at your school or college.
Year 9–13 Creative Spark workshops

During the University's Creative Spark exhibition, we offer architecture workshops and tours of the exhibition. More information can be found on the Creative Spark website leading up to the exhibition.
Year 12–13 English Day Schools

English Day Schools offer an opportunity for AS and A2 Level English students to attend a series of presentation by External Examiners from AQA exam board to support revision and coursework preparation. Dates for 2011/12 are 9 and 10 November. There is a charge of £15 per student.

Year 10–13 Forgotten Spaces

An ideas based competition aimed at giving disused spaces a new use. An opportunity for a team of students to take a site and creatively design and explore suitable solutions for either within your school/college or community areas nearby.

A taster lecture delivered by a geography lecturer on a topical subject. The 2011 lecture will be on Thursday 24 November at 1pm.
Year 10–13 Inter-School Mock Trial Competition 2012

Inter-School Mock Trial Competition 2012 A new pilot competition organised in conjunction with the Sheffield Law Society and sponsored by Bhayani Bracewell to offer a team of students the chance to debate a point of law and, if progressed to the final, take part in a full mock trial to win a prize. Teachers and advisers Teacher Education Recruitment Partnership Meeting

This series of meetings are designed to ensure advice, guidance and information given reflects the rapid changes in the Teacher Training sector and university recruitment processes. There will be updates from senior staff in the faculty, and an opportunity for colleagues to share their experiences of advising prospective students, ask questions and raise points for clarification.

The next meeting is on Thursday 22nd March, 1:30-3:30pm, with another meeting scheduled for Wednesday 20th June at the same time. To book a place please complete the online booking form online booking form.

All prospective students Taster sessions

We are currently developing taster sessions in all subject areas across the Faculty, which are designed to suit a range of ages and can be delivered as part of a visit to the University or at your school or college. Further details are available on the range of sessions on request.
Year 10–13 Taster days

We will be running a series of taster days in 2012, designed to demonstrate the range of subjects or career opportunities in a particular area and give students a flavour of what studying those subjects at university would be like. These taster days will take place at the University in the following areas:

• Geography, environment and planning (in collaboration with the Geographical Association) – 18th June
• Architecture and built environment – date TBC
• Education and social care – date TBC
• Law and social sciences – 16th March, 26th June

Year 10–13 Uni Verse
