What subjects do we cover?
Study English language before you start your degree course
The University's degree courses have an English Language requirement (IELTS). Our pre-sessional courses help you meet your required IELTS level.
English language teaching as a career
Our courses focus on your professional development as an English language teacher. They enable you to enter the profession or develop your career.
Research
Our academics produce research, and they work closely with students to develop their own research.
A lot of our research focuses on language learning and teaching. The goal is to improve classroom-based practice and enhance language learning in a wide range of contexts.
Our work is shared with local, national and international audiences through conferences, seminars, guest lectures and publications.
Industry links
Professional practice is at the heart of all of our work. We have strong links with a number of professional bodies.
In teacher education, we offer internationally recognised qualifications and courses accredited by Trinity College London.
Our English language courses are accredited by the British Council.
We are members of
- The International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language
- The British Association of Applied Linguistics
- The Global Forum for EAP Professionals
Many of our staff have experience as IELTS and Trinity College examiners.
International links
Our international connections are an integral part of our work.
We design and deliver teacher education courses in collaboration with international partners. Our partners are based in countries including China, Libya and Thailand. The courses can either be taught here, in the partner's country, or by distance learning.
We also develop English language courses with international partners. They include the Iraqi Ministry of Health and partner institutions in China.
