Case study of a sports coach

All case studies are fictional and used to provide an examples of routes that could be followed through the programme.

Nathan is a semi-professional football player who will be coming to the end of his playing career over the next five years. Nathan graduated 10 years ago and has completed some postgraduate study. He currently works in a sales environment but is beginning to plan for a career as a personal trainer or sports coach.

Year 1
Reduction of sport injury (15 credits)
Psychology of sport performance (15 credits)

Year 2
Advanced techniques in sport psychology (15 credits)
Improving performance (15 credits)
Nathan is eligible for a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Professional Development.

Year 3
Advanced sports nutrition (15 credits)
Training and performance: aerobic domain (15 credits)

Year 4
Training and performance: high intensity domain (15 credits)
Research methods: process and planning (15 credits)
Nathan is eligible for a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Professional Development.

Year 5
Sport and exercise science dissertation (60 credits)
Nathan will have achieved a MSc in Advanced Professional Development within his five year career plan.
