Have you studied a higher education course before?
If you are a UK/EU student, have previously studied in higher education and are applying for another course at the same or a lower level that starts in 2011, different rules on fees and funding may apply to you.
This could be the case if you already have an undergraduate degree (BA, BSc) and want to apply for another undergraduate qualification, or if you already have a postgraduate qualification (MA, MSc) and want to apply for another postgraduate qualification.
Changes the government announced in September 2007 mean that these students are charged a higher fee than the standard fees shown in our prospectus and may not be eligible for the same student finance loans.
If you are intending to study an undergraduate course starting in 2012, please note that different rules will apply. These have not yet been announced by the government.
Exemptions
There are some exemptions to this system, including undergraduate courses in architecture and social work and those covered by a means-tested NHS student bursary such as nursing courses. Students receiving disabled students' allowance (DSA) are also exempt from the higher fees, but are not eligible for a maintenance grant, maintenance loan or tuition fee loan from the Student Loans Company.
If you are unsure whether your previous study affects your eligibility for student finance, please contact Student Finance England or our Admissions Office for advice.
