The International Access Scheme

The International Access Scheme (IAS) is for international and European students who are studying in the UK at one of our partner further education colleges.

What are the benefits of the IAS?

Eligible students at partner colleges with whom we have signed an agreement will have access to a number of benefits, including

  • An IAS bursary equivalent to 10% of the student's tuition fee for the first year of undergraduate or postgraduate study
  • Access to support before they come to the University, including a named contact who can answer queries and help arrange a visit to the University
  • Advice about progression routes from college foundation courses onto undergraduate or postgraduate courses at Sheffield Hallam University
  • Opportunities to visit the University Open Days (October and June)

Am I eligible for the IAS bursary?

To be eligible for the IAS bursary you must be classified as an international or EU student for fee purposes and you must be studying a course at a partner college which is recognised for entry onto a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course at Sheffield Hallam University. For example, you could be studying on an international foundation course, A' levels or a HND course, but not an English language course, as an English language course alone does not qualify you to study at university.

I'm studying at a partner college, how do I apply for the bursary?

There is nothing that you need to do in order to get your bursary. If you are eligible you will receive a letter from us which will ask you for your bank or building society details. We will then pay your bursary directly into your bank or building society account.

You will be paid in Semester Two for the first year of study only. You will receive this bursary only once.

When is the IAS bursary paid?

The bursary is paid to IAS students during the first year of their undergraduate or postgraduate course at the University, in the second semester, once all their tuition fees have been received by the University.
