Meet our people

Sheffield is one of the biggest cities in England and is located in the centre of the country, so it is very convenient for travelling to other parts of the UK. It's also a good place to study because it is very peaceful and quiet. At the same time, Sheffield will not let you down if you like colourful nightlife.
The University has a brilliant International Student Support Team who can help you with everything. One of the activities is called 'local friends' in which you can visit a local family's house - I was invited to spend Christmas Day with a local family, which was a very precious experience for me.

Sheffield Hallam University is great. There are a variety of courses and you can choose language support classes to develop your English for free. The international marketing course should help me to find a suitable and ideal job after I graduate from Sheffield Hallam University. Wherever I am in the future, I believe I will never forget the experience of studying here.

Maoli Hao
MSc International Hospitality and Tourism Management
Before I came to Sheffield, I was nervous because I had no experience of living abroad and was concerned about the style of teaching and getting along with other students. However, after arriving here all my fears turned out to be unfounded. My course tutors provided me with useful advice on how to excel in my studies and secure a placement.
At the beginning of my first term, I was having some difficulties with the local accent and listening and speaking. I signed up for the English language classes and found that my English improved a lot, they also offered me the chance to make friends with other international students.

PhD English Language Teaching
The decision to study a PhD in Education was a simple one - I studied education in my undergraduate and MA courses and I am interested in a career in education.
In the first year, I took some taught research classes. These were very well organised, the content was appropriate and the lessons well delivered.
The course definitely lived up to my expectations. My supervisors are very professional, supportive and knowledgeable. They really help to make this a most enjoyable and beneficial experience.
I think the best thing about Sheffield Hallam is that it's a student-centred university - I have received good support with my research training, supervision, funding for conferences, my visa application and job hunting.
