All of our courses require different levels of qualifications for entry and the details provided below are for guidance only.
English language
All applicants are required to gain an internationally recognised English language qualification before entering an undergraduate or postgraduate programme, such as IELTS or TOEFL. As a guideline the minimum IELTS requirement is IELTS 5.5 for pre-masters programmes, and IELTS 6.0 for other academic programmes. Please note that some courses may have higher English language requirements.
For German students, the Abitur (at 7 points or above with English as a special subject ) is accepted in place of IELTS 6.0.

Undergraduate programmes
For information on qualifications considered for entry on to undergraduate programmes select your country from the list below
Cyprus
The following qualifications from Cyprus will be considered for entry on to undergraduate programmes
- Greek Cypriot - Apolyterion with a score of 17-18.5 (including maths and English)
- Turkish Cypriot - Lise Diplomasi with a score 4 plus foundation year in relevant subject. In the old system student are required to score 8 plus foundation year in relevant subject
- A levels (including Modern Greek)

- International Baccalaureate
Greece
The following qualifications from Greece will be considered for entry on to Undergraduate programmes
- Apolyterion of Lykeio typically with a score between 16 and 18 depending on entry level of course
Poland
The following qualifications from Poland will be considered for entry on to undergraduate programmes
- Polish Matura with a score of 'good' / grade 4 or 60/70% (including English and mathematics)
Other EU countries
The following qualifications will be considered for entry on to undergraduate programmes-
- two GCE/VCE A' level passes
- High School Leaving Certificate, which is recognised as equivalent to A' level standard
- other international qualifications gained after 13 years of secondary/further education

Sheffield Hallam welcomes applications from international school students taking the International Baccalaureate Diploma and those achieving 28 points or more will usually be successful in obtaining an offer of a place on our undergraduate programmes. For information about IB points equivalencies against the UCAS tariff please visit the UCAS website.
Pre-masters programmes (Graduate Diploma)
All EU countries
The following qualifications will be considered for entry on to pre-masters programmes
- diplomas awarded after a minimum of two years study after completion of a secondary education
- students holding a degree in a subject considered unsuitable for direct entry to a masters programme - 'conversion' students
Postgraduate taught courses (Masters)

Cyprus
The following qualifications from Cyprus will be considered for entry on to postgraduate taught programmes
- Greek Cypriot - a first degree from a private higher education institutions, with a score of grade C / 2.0 or grade B / 3.0 depending on the course
- a good or very good first degree from a public higher education institutions with a score of 5-8.49
- Turkish Cypriot - a first degree from Eastern Mediterranean University with a score of grade C / 2.0 or grade B / 3.0 depending on the course
Greece
The following qualifications from Greece will be considered for entry on to postgraduate taught programmes
- Ptychion with a score of at least 5.0 from an Anotera Ekpedeftika Idrymata (AEI) or 6.0 from a Technologika Ekpedeftika Idrymata (TEI)
Poland
The following qualifications from Poland will be considered for entry on to postgraduate taught programmes
- Bachelor degree from a recognised university with at least a grade of 3/3+
- Magister from a recognised university with at least a grade of 3/3+
- Licencjat / Inzynier, Diploma (in professional fields from a Szkoly Pomaturalne) or
Technik / Diploma on completion of Szkoly Policealne may be considered with at least five years' work experience
Students with the following qualifications may be considered with at least five years' work experience.
- Licencjat / Inzynier
- Diploma (in professional fields from a Szkoly Pomaturalne)
- Technik / Diploma on completion of Szkoly Policealne
Other EU countries
Postgraduate taught programmes (masters)
The following qualifications will be considered for entry on to postgraduate taught programmes
- a first degree or professional qualification recognised as being equivalent to degree standard
- an HND or higher education diploma with substantial work experience in an appropriate field
- successful completion of a recognised pre-Masters course

Postgraduate research programmes
The following qualifications will be considered for entry on to postgraduate research programmes (MPhil/PhD)
- Masters degree from a recognised University
In most cases, students are required to submit a full application for PhD study, including a formal research proposal.
