Qualifications for entry for students from Sri Lanka

All of our courses require different levels of qualifications for entry and the details provided below are for guidance only.

Undergraduate programmes

Students who have completed the International Baccalaureate, GCE A-levels or Sri Lankan A levels will be considered for entry to undergraduate programmes.

The following qualifications will be considered for advanced entry onto year two or year three of certain undergraduate programmes at Sheffield Hallam

  • completion of year one or year two of a relevant bachelors degree at a Sri Lankan university
  • two year Diploma or HND
  • CIMA advanced Diploma (Certificate plus P1/P2/P4/P5/P7/P8)

Sheffield Hallam welcomes applications from international school students taking the International Baccalaureate Diploma and those achieving 28 points or more will usually be successful in obtaining an offer of a place on our undergraduate programmes. Sri Lankan specific top-up Programme

Following the completion of a relevant BTEC, HND and Semester 1 modules at Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, applicants will be considered for entry onto one of the following Summer Semester Top-Up Programmes at the university:

  • BSc (Hons) Information Technology
  • BSc (Hons) Information Technology (Computer Systems and Networking)
  • BSc (Hons) Information Technology (Software Engineering)

Pre-masters programme (Graduate Diploma)

The following qualifications will be considered for entry on to pre-masters programmes

  • a degree in a subject considered unsuitable for direct entry to a master's programme - 'conversion' students'
  • an OND or HND with a minimum of 'upper credit' and at least two years of relevant work experience

English language

All applicants are required to gain an internationally recognised English language qualification before entering an undergraduate or postgraduate programme, such as IELTS or TOEFL. As a guideline the minimum IELTS requirement is IELTS 5.5 for pre-masters programmes, and IELTS 6.0 for other academic programmes. Please note that some courses may have higher English language requirements.

IGCSE/GCSE English Grade C or above or Sri Lankan GCE O Level English at Credit or above are accepted in place of IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL.
