Careers and Employment Assistant - Graduate Intern

Directorate of Student and Learning Services (SLS)
Quality Enhancement and Student Success (QESS)
Fixed-term until 31 July 2014
Full-time
Salary £14,750 per annum
Vacancy reference: SLS 1351/12

This is an exciting opportunity to gain a wide range of administrative and communication experience in delivering careers and employability support to Sheffield Hallam University students and graduates of the university. The Careers and Employment Service at Sheffield Hallam is one of the largest in the country and has teams of careers and employment advisers working within each of its four Faculties as well as delivering a central service on both campuses. It is about to move its delivery into a new Careers and Employability Centre in a prime location at the main entrance to the University.

You will be working in support of two of its key employability projects: the Career Mentoring programme which matches current students with a professional work based mentor; and the Career Impact programme which offers additional intensive support to students wishing to aspire to graduate training schemes or those who might experience some additional challenges in entering work i.e. care leavers and those with a disability. You will work closely with the teams delivering these programmes and actively support their delivery. In addition you will be asked to contribute regular communications with students via our social media platforms, participate in answering general enquiries within the new Centre and provide some administrative support to the Head of the Careers and Employment Service.

You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, lots of energy and enthusiasm and a real interest in ensuring that the work of the Service is focused on what students want. You will be able to write well, be a confident user of social media. The ability to make good presentations would also be an advantage.

You will be supported in your development throughout the period of the internship and have access to personal careers advice and support as well as professional training and development opportunities.

The post will be located on City Campus, though your work may require some travel between campuses and different offices. The post will report to the Head of the Careers and Employment Service

Informal enquiries may be made to Pat Quinn (Head of the Careers and Employment Service) on 0114 225 2157 or by emailing P.Quinn@shu.ac.uk
