Academic

Join one of the largest universities in the UK, with a strong track record of academic excellence, an ambitious strategy and a clear direction of travel. We look for people who are deeply engaged in their field – whether through professional practice or research and knowledge transfer- and who are capable of transferring their enthusiasm and commitment to our students.

Teaching

Teaching at Sheffield Hallam is organised into three colleges:

College of Business, Technology and Engineering home to the Sheffield Business School (SBS) and the Departments of Computing, and Engineering & Mathematics.

Whether our students are studying with a specific career in mind or for their own personal, professional and academic development, it's vitally important to us that they have the best possible educational experience at Sheffield Hallam. Academically stimulating, well-delivered teaching, informed by contemporary practice, is at the heart of our strategy.

We are committed to supporting academic staff to develop their teaching and/or research skills. We were one of the first UK universities to have members of staff recognised as National Teaching Fellows by the Higher Education Academy (HEA). We provide systematic continuing professional development for teaching for staff at all levels, supported by HEA accreditation.

We value excellent teaching at Sheffield Hallam. Every year, our students nominate staff for our Inspirational Teaching Awards, which are presented in an annual ceremony by the Vice-Chancellor. In 2015, over 1,700 members of staff were nominated for an award, demonstrating the huge impact you can make on our students' experience.

Research

Our applied research and innovation activities address important social and economic challenges which are realised through our partnerships with businesses and organisations.

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) places Sheffield Hallam in the top five of all UK modern universities for research quality. Overall, 65 per cent of the research we submitted received the prestigious 4* and 3* rating as world-leading and internationally excellent. These results underline the quality of research being undertaken across the University and its impact on the economy and society.

We have an ambitious research and innovation strategy that will build on this platform by supporting and developing researchers and advancing their careers at Sheffield Hallam. In January 2013 we were awarded the European Commission’s HR Excellence in Research award in recognition of the support we provide for those wanting to develop a research career with us.
