About Sheffield Hallam University
Sheffield Hallam is the third largest university in the UK (based on 2011/12 figures) with around 37,066 students and 4,170 staff - 2,064 of which are academic. Around 28,409 of our students are undergraduate and 8,657 are postgraduate. In 2011/12 (applications for 2012/13 entry), Sheffield Hallam was the fifth most popular university for UCAS applications.
The University recruits a large proportion of students from the region (in 2011/12 20 per cent of UK students were from within 25 miles of the University) and strongly emphasises widening participation - in 2011/12 95 per cent of our students were from state schools or colleges.
More than 4,000 of our students are overseas students, from more than 100 countries. 32 per cent of our non-EU students were from China, 26 per cent from Malaysia and 17 per cent from India.
We run approximately 775 different courses and more than half of all courses offer integrated practice or work placement opportunities. There are 2,064 academic staff (teaching and research) and 2,106 non-academic staff.

Research
Sheffield Hallam's total research and knowledge transfer income in 2011/12 was £7,389,000. In addition the University received £4.5m in HEFCE quality-related funding and £1.2m from HEFCE's Higher Education Innovation Fund.
The University has 16 research centres and institutes and several specialised research groups.
Employability
Sheffield Hallam University is the region's second ranking non-profit employer of graduates, according to a new independent study based on data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). The Complete University Guide has ranked Sheffield Hallam as joint eighth top graduate employer in the Yorkshire and the Humber - the highest position of any educational institution in the region.
Results from the 2010/11 Destination of Leavers of Higher Education Survey showed approximately 86 per cent of our undergraduate students were in work or further study within six months of their graduation, while 56% of employed leavers were in graduate jobs.
Estates
Sheffield Hallam is made up of two campuses within easy walking distance of one another, which linked by a range of privately-owned student accommodation. Over the past ten years the University has invested around £110 million in its estate with the aim of creating spaces that are innovative, flexible, safe and sustainable. It is one of the best performers in the sector in terms of sustainability.
