A Sheffield Hallam University artist is unlocking the secrets of creating art with metal at a new exhibition later this month.
Dr Coilin O’Dubhghaill from the University's Art and Design Research Centre (ADRC) is spearheading KeyPiece, an exhibition and workshop, at the Sheffield Institute of Art and Design Gallery.
The exhibition will feature the works of 10 leading metalwork and jewellery makers - including Professor Christoph Zellweger, Grace Horne and Maria Hanson from ADRC - and illustrates the city's long-standing tradition in metalcraft and related practices.
Dr O'Dubhghaill said: "A keypiece is important to understanding an artist's work and this exhibition will bring together 10 leading metalworkers with 40 of their pieces.
"The exhibition aims to investigate the creative process, using the keypieces as a means to understand the research and development that goes into the making of new work."
Professor Chris Rust, Director of the Sheffield Institute of Arts, at Sheffield Hallam, said: "Sheffield has a long-standing tradition in metalwork, precious metalcraft and related practices. It is in the interest of the city, its industry and creative culture to build on and develop this tradition for the future.
"KeyPiece aims to foster dialogue between leading practitioners working in Britain today and will allow the public to see cutting edge research works on display and to create new insights and understanding."
The exhibition opens to the public at the gallery in the Furnival Building on Arundel Street, city centre, on November 21 at 7pm, with the two-day workshop taking place on 20 November and 21 November from 9.30am to 5pm.
