Sheffield Hallam University's men's volleyball team are set to compete at the European University Volleyball Championships next week, held in the city of Nicosia in Cyprus.
The team have been preparing for the tournament by training with lead strength and conditioning coach Dave Hembrough and head coach Keith Trenam - both sport scientists at the University.
Keith Trenam said: "This is a great chance to play against top quality opposition and develop as a team. The top half of the draw is extremely strong but we have previously shown that under this competition format we can be competitive.
"Our best finish has been ninth out of a maximum of 16 teams permitted in the competition, but this year we're hoping to break into the top eight."
As well as working hard on court in preparation, the team is working hard to raise money to cover costs of the trip, and they are hoping to attract sponsorship.
Roman Neveykin, team captain, said: "This is an opportunity for us to showcase our talent on an international stage. The boys have all competed at junior international level and a few have also represented at the highest senior level. It’s a good chance to show other coaches from the continent that we have talent and would be able to play in professional leagues in Europe."
