You normally need an honours degree or equivalent from a recognised institution and at least two years’ experience in a management role. If you have more substantial management experience we may accept your application based on relevant professional qualifications.

When you apply for this course, include two detailed explanations about your management position. This should include information about your role and the scope of your responsibilities, such as managing people, finance and project management experience. Your information should be verified by your employer. Alternatively, you can send us your letter of appointment or contract of employment confirming your management responsibilities.

We welcome applications from overseas students but you must be able to demonstrate a high level of written and verbal fluency. A TOEFL internet-based 91 (with a minimum of 21 in writing and listening, 22 in reading and 23 in speaking) or an IELTS score of 6.5 (with 5.5 in all skills), is the standard for non-native speakers of English. If your English language skill is currently below an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English level.

If you do not meet above criteria but have at least five years’ work experience, two of which must be at managerial level, you can apply for the Graduate Diploma in Business and English. Please note you will also need to achieve an  IELTS score of 6.5 (with 5.5 in all skills) or A TOEFL internet-based 91 (with a minimum of 21 in writing and listening, 22 in reading and 23 in speaking).

If you apply for the MBA and the Graduate Diploma, we will offer you a place on the MBA subject to your passing the diploma and meeting the required English level.
