Year one modules

Hospitality information and communication technology
You examine e-business strategy.

Hospitality service analysis and development
You learn about the operations and quality systems within the hospitality and food service sectors.

International catering design
You look at the drivers of design systems as applied to the industry, and discuss the nature and effect of design on customer experience.

Business equations and financial analysis
You study the process of analysing an organisation’s performance as set against industry trends. This enables you to make informative and impactful business decisions.

Year two modules

Hospitality project management
You study the tools and structures required to systematically deal with various types of project.

Hospitality architectural design
You look at hotel, restaurant and facilities design from an architect’s perspective. You examine the interface between architecture and operational viability.

Hospitality management consultancy
You study the contractual, professional and ethical elements of the consultant’s role, and the range of consultancy models and approaches used.

Managing innovation and change
This module looks at the nature of innovation and organisational change. You examine the role of innovation in a developing organisation, and how innovation and change processes can be managed.

Final year modules

Project or dissertation
You choose either a work-related project or a dissertation to complete the course. The topic will be based on your own area of interest, and you’ll be supported by a tutor.

 

Attendance

Part-time – typically three years

There are two modules each semester in the first and second year, followed by the dissertation in the final year.

There is one induction study school which lasts four days. Each of the four semesters has one mid-semester study school lasting three days. There is one final study school at the start of the last semester.

Fees – home and EU students

2013/14 academic year

Typically £3,060 a year

Plus an additional £1,000 for affiliated membership of the Foodservice Consultants Society International (FCSI), payable in year one.

Assessment

We assess each module by written assignment. You complete a dissertation to gain the MSc.
