This course focuses on giving you the technical and related skills needed to provide successful web and cloud computing solutions to real business problems. The course is aimed at both practising professionals and recent graduates who wish to study for a higher qualification, while gaining relevant experience in this rapidly advancing area.

You gain skills in developing and applying cloud-related technology and learn about the benefits and challenges of cloud computing. You investigate a range of topics including advanced data handling, cloud computing security and collective intelligence based on user-generated content. You study the different types of cloud and the various cloud layers including • software-as-a-service • platform-as-a-service • infrastructure-as-a-service.

You also investigate the commercial, legal and social implications for businesses, the use of distributed computing environments, and how they provide seamless interfaces to scalable high-performance computing resources.

During the course you review computation and communications technologies including virtualisation, MapReduce, and PageRank. There are significant opportunities for hands-on work with new and emerging cloud computing architectures, technologies and applications.

Many companies are considering migrating to cloud computing. The aim of this course is to combine the application of leading edge technical skills with the understanding of business needs, while emphasising the importance of being an excellent IT professional.
