'I was unsure about doing a masters but this course seemed more involved in actually doing some mathematics rather than just reading research, which made it sound more appealing. And rich maths is one of this years targets in school so I knew I would get some support from them too.
'I've really enjoyed working with other students at university and doing mathematics myself, helping me to understand the difficulties faced by my pupils and so enabling me to better develop lessons and resources.
'The course is helping to build my confidence after a difficult start, and is encouraging me to be more daring in the classroom. It is also helping to me to think differently about each activity in a lesson and about the way I question and speak to pupils as they are working.
'Im really pleased with the learning centre at Sheffield Hallam. There is easy access to computers and the internet and a wide range of books, TV programmes and resources. Also when I could not find a particular book I wanted, the library purchased it for me. It's also really easy to renew books online.
'I would recommend this course to teachers I think that studying, and taking part in solving mathematical problems has helped me to improve my teaching. Being a learner has helped me to experience a situation somewhat similar to my pupils, enabling me to empathise with them and to have a better understanding of how to improve things for them.'
