Develop and enhance your career by learning how to provide a more evidence-based and holistic approach to managing sport injury. The course enables qualified physiotherapists to develop professional competencies around sports physiotherapy practice. It complies with competencies informed by the International Federation of Sport Physiotherapy, ensuring your learning is in line with professional best practice.
During this course you
• gain the skills to reduce, treat and rehabilitate athletes from sport injury, and you discover how your work benefits the development of athletes
• learn how to provide effective treatment strategies in accordance with clinical guidelines, but tailored to each athlete
• examine conditions that can arise from sedentary behaviour and how these conditions outweigh those that are related to sport and exercise
• develop teamwork skills and explore ethical, cultural and organisational factors related to sport.
We have a strong tradition of providing excellence in education as well as being one of the largest centres of physiotherapy education in the UK.
You join a community of students from diverse cultural and sporting backgrounds who bring a wide range of experiences with them. We draw on this during the course and encourage you to share ideas and knowledge.
Our teaching and research staff have considerable experience of working with many different sports and have strong links to practice. Teaching and research staff from physiotherapy and sport science contribute to the course as do practitioners based in sport full-time. Sheffield was declared the UK's first national city for sport, and Sheffield Hallam is an important national contributor to sports medicine and sport and exercise science development through the Centre for Sport and Exercise Science.
We have invested heavily in our teaching facilities and have some of the best resources for students in the UK. We have specialist teaching rooms and laboratories and rehabilitation equipment, designed to assess and rehabilitate an injured athlete.
There are some opportunities to gain sport and practice experience while on the course.
A number of our teaching staff were involved with the GB team at the London 2012 Olympics.

Assessment includes written assignments, practical viva (oral) examinations and case study reports. There are no formal written exams.
