What is languages with marketing?
Knowledge of other cultures and the ability to speak other languages are valuable skills for businesses operating internationally. This expertise enables marketers to understand customers and respond to their requirements profitably.

About this course

Develop the subject and language skills needed to take advantage of a growing demand for marketing professionals with language expertise.

You study two languages consisting of Spanish with another foreign language. You can choose your additional language from a selection of • French • German • Italian. Italian is offered at beginner level only. Your non-language modules studied abroad will cover marketing topics, such as managing markets and business marketing and sales skills.

You study two languages made up of either
• two languages at post-A level/AS level
• or one at post-A level/AS level and one at post-GCSE or beginner level

Use the latest methods to quickly increase your language fluency in modern facilities designated for language students. This includes high-tech multimedia digital language laboratories and computer facilities, as well as social areas for informal learning. We encourage a strong student community across our language courses.

This also includes a peer mentoring programme and tandem language practice with native speaking language assistants, which helps to improve your conversation skills and helps you get to know other students on your course.

The marketing components of the course enable you to develop your knowledge of key marketing concepts and theory and your understanding of how to apply this to different customer markets. You also gain an understanding of the global marketplace and of strategic marketing.

As part of your course, you spend 18 months abroad. This includes six months at one of our partner universities. You spend this study time in the country of your weaker language.

You spend 12 months on placement in an organisation based in a Spanish-speaking country. If you have two A level languages you can discuss your options with your tutor and choose which language is spent on placement and which is spent as study abroad.

Your placement is a great opportunity to gain valuable international business experience. It helps you develop your skills and language ability, and significantly enhances your employability.

You can apply for placements with international organisations such as Bosch, Spain and Iberia Airlines, Spain.

You study for one semester in a foreign university in the country of one of your chosen languages.

Year three

• work placement abroad in the country of your stronger language

Entry requirements

2014 entry requirements

Normally, five GCSEs at grade C or above including English language and mathematics, plus one of the following

• 280 points including at least 160 points from two GCE/VCE A levels or BTEC National qualifications or one AVCE double award. We accept general studies. You must have at least one A level (minimum grade E) or one AS level (minimum grade C) in one of your chosen programme languages.

• Access – an Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 credits at level 3 and 15 credits at level 2. At least 15 level 3 credits must be at merit grade or above, from a QAA-recognised Access to HE course, or an equivalent Access to HE certificate.

If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each skill.

If you do not have any of the qualifications above but have relevant experience you are welcome to discuss potential opportunities with the admissions tutor.
