What is photography?
In today’s world it is hard to escape the photographic image. From mobile phone to gallery to billboard, photographs constantly surround and inform us. This makes photography one of the most potent, persuasive and at times contested forms of contemporary production.
Develop a range of advanced photographic techniques, theories and concepts, on a course that encourages you to push boundaries. You learn to produce creatively-driven work to a professional standard, taking and managing risks and developing innovative solutions to problems.
You study the production of both digital and analogue imaging using our well-equipped photographic facilities. These include two industry-standard photography studios, a range of portable lighting equipment, digital and wet darkroom and an extensive lending store where you can borrow equipment such as cameras, lenses and tripods.
Throughout this course you develop professional skills in communication through multidisciplinary teamwork as well as the flexibility to work in different photographic contexts such as in fashion, gallery or documentary settings. We offer you opportunities to exhibit your work, giving you experience in presenting your work to an audience. You are also helped to develop a strong portfolio of work that will help you in preparing for your future career.
The first level of the course offers a technical, creative and theoretical foundation, while the second level encourages you to build on these skills and begin to develop your own specialised practice.
In the third level you focus on developing a project to a high professional standard which culminates in a University wide exhibition. The exhibition features the work of final level students from a wide range of creative disciplines.
