Our Postgraduate Diploma Human Resource Management is recognised as equivalent to the CIPD Advanced level diploma. Successfully completing it also gives you the knowledge required towards a professional level of membership (Associate member, Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow).

The MSc Human Resource Management (HRM) course has lecturers that have been HR practitioners and have a practical, engaging teaching method which makes the course extremely interactive, relevant and appealing!
I began my career in HR as a graduate intern at a local HR consultancy, Total HR Limited. Within six months I was promoted to an HR business partner, dealing with client queries and delivering on a range of HR activities. It was identified that a Masters course in HRM would be a key development tool to use in my career in HR and as an aspiring HR professional. This course would allow me to underpin my extensive practical working knowledge of HR with the theoretical aspects that are also important for the modern HR practitioner.
The course is structured to accommodate your needs in your working and personal life.
Studying part time means you retain the flexibility of working and studying simultaneously and the work load remains manageable and compatible with your work responsibilities.
As the course directly links to my work, they complement each other, this means it doesn’t seem too much of a task doing an essay because it helps to understand the work that you do in the office!
The tutors have been incredibly supportive, understanding and accommodating of our commitment to our work life and also provide a friendly and approachable ear to your ideas whether they are academic, professional or personal.
The facilities are excellent and working remotely is encouraged.
My experience of studying on this course has been absolutely invaluable to my development as a HR professional and my skills as a HR practitioner. It critically underpinned the work that I undertook for the Law Society for England and Wales for which I was shortlisted for a CIPD People Management Award for Outstanding Student of the Year and shortlisted for the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce Young Business Person of the Year. I have gained confidence, knowledge and professionalism in the work that I undertake as well as meeting other like minded HR colleagues/professionals.
I am fortunate enough to have been sponsored by my employer. The sponsorship was agreed as it was the next natural progression in my HR career but also because the business would receive a significant return on investment from having a practitioner who knew the latest HR trends, employment law and HR knowledge.
The MSc HRM has enabled me to deliver a first class service to our clients, understand HR as an evolving and diverse practice but ultimately, has given me the confidence to become an HR professional with impact. For example, my MSc allowed me to generate over £100,000 for the business through delivering first class HR training and being shortlisted for a number of awards which has helped our commercial exposure.
My advice to anyone considering studying part-time is
• manage your time effectively and make sure that it works around you not the other way around
• always talk to your lecturers – they are your main support network as well as colleagues on the course
• always ask for help
• you are taken just as seriously as full timers – so get involved!
Studying part time may seem daunting but it is flexible, enjoyable and you get the best of both worlds – time to breathe and time to study!
