Progression courses
Part-time – typically one year to certificate, two years to diploma, three years to masters, maximum six years
Starts October or March
For each module you typically attend four Saturdays over six month periods.
Module dates for 2012-13
Effective educational leaders will run on 6 October, 10 November, 8 December and 12 January.
Leading and managing organisation change will run on 20 April, 25 May, 8 June and 6 July.
Managing professional learning will run on 13 October, 17 November, 15 December and 19 January.
Values, policy and strategy in educational leadership will run on 23 March, 25 May, 8 June and 6 July.

Each module is assessed by a single assignment of 5-6,000 words. The report for the major project is 12-15,000 words.

'I’m really interested in leadership and management and am self-funding my masters. Initially I applied through personal interest, but I can already see benefits within my work. I want to know more, understand current issues and debates, and use this and my personal reflections to underpin my work – which is changing rapidly.
'The highlights of the course are the "aha!" moments – learning new concepts and models and applying them to my situation. It’s great having in-depth professional discussions with everyone, and being able to study something I’m really interested in a way I enjoy.
'Every time I walk out of Sheffield train station I feel really excited when I face the Sheffield Hallam buildings and think "I’m part of this!" It’s a great chance to meet others, be challenged and develop, and to learn from tutors who want the best for you – and are just as excited as I get at times! The materials and sessions are very good. You always come away feeling full up.
'This course is changing me, and changing my aspirations. I have questioned my values and those of my organisation – and this has led to me taking more of a stance in different situations, arguing more confidently, and consciously shaping my career development where I can.
'My understanding of leadership and management has developed.
