About this course

This course is for people who have recently graduated from a computing-related degree and want to increase their knowledge and skills before starting work, or are at an early stage in their careers.

It focuses on the skills needed to provide successful technical solutions to business problems. You gain the necessary skills to design, specify and build internet-enabled enterprise systems.

On this course you
• learn about best practice in the theory and application of leading edge technologies, enterprise architectures, systems development tools and appropriate managerial techniques
• maximise your employment and career potential by demonstrating and applying technical skills
• develop and enhance your professional and managerial skills in the technical development of enterprise systems

In collaboration with SAP and industry, we have designed the course to join together academic content with Professional SAP certification. Included in this MSc is a 12 week course leading to SAP certification. You can choose from one of the following

• TERP10 - SAP ERP - Integration of Business Processes
This course provides you with a general overview of Enterprise Resource Planning using SAP ERP software solutions and numerous case studies on business process integration. It is an excellent choice if you have had little or no exposure to SAP.

• Introduction to SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM)
This course exposes you to how organisations use business solutions to get the right information, at the right time, to the right person, to manage customer relationships and interaction. You must have appropriate work experience before you study this course.

By combining advanced masters level study with one of these SAP certifications you gain an advantage in an increasingly competitive job market.

If you are interested in business intelligence and you have appropriate experience, you may like to study

• Introduction to SAP Business Intelligence (SAP BI)
This course uses live ERP business solution case studies to introduce you to fundamental underpinnings of how businesses use their business results to help them predict business outcomes. This course does not include certification.

Associated careers

Students typically find work developing advanced enterprise systems, integrating legacy systems for Internet enabled enterprise applications, and designing contemporary business information systems, working as senior developers or freelance as independent consultants.

Alternatively, this course will give graduates the knowledge and experience to continue studying for a PhD, or to enter a career in research.

Professional recognition

This course includes an SAP training academy. You can take examinations which lead to SAP qualifications in one of the worlds leading business technologies.

You can take the associated examinations for Solution Consultant mySAP ERP – Fundamentals and Integration of Business Processes (TERP 10).

These improve your interpersonal skills, critical thinking and reflection to help you become a stronger IT professional.

Other modules

• web application design and modelling • IT project management • knowledge representation • databases and the web

To gain an MSc, you study a research principles and practice module and then take a substantial research project resulting in a dissertation.

Assessment

Assessment methods vary from module to module. They include • presentations • technical reports • demonstrations • student-delivered seminars • written submissions/essays.

Entry requirements

You will normally have a good honours degree (2.2 or above) in computing or a computer-related subject. We will consider applicants without a degree based on their work experience and other formal qualifications.

Overseas applicants from countries whose first language is not English must normally produce evidence of competence in English. An IELTS score of 6.0 with 5.5 in all skills (or equivalent) is the standard for non-native speakers of English. If your English language skill is currently below an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English level.
