Current student, assistant leader of learning science and professsional mentor
'I have a heavy workload as both subject mentor and professional mentor. I have studied as a professional coach but want to develop my mentoring skills. I hope that obtaining the Postgraduate Certificate in Mentoring and subsequently the Masters in Education will support my ambition of working at university on a PGCE or Teach First training course.
'Before the course I had not studied at university for several years and was concerned that I would not be able to study at the level required. But I was fully supported and encouraged every step of the way by the course leader.
'The research aspect of the module was very interesting and I was able to use skills learnt in my day to day practice. Initially I found the assessment daunting but the content of the tutorials and one-to-one tuition was incredibly useful. Completing the assignment and getting the final result was one of my most rewarding experiences to date.
'The knowledge and experience gained gave me the confidence to apply for the role of professional mentor. The fact that I was studying toward the PgCert Mentoring was definitely a key factor in securing the role. The experience of the advance mentor module has also fuelled my passion for working toward becoming a tutor on an ITT course. I am confident that on completion of my studies I will be qualified to undertake such a position.
'I have and will continue to recommend this course. It's tailored to each individual’s needs. I am studying alongside students who are just beginning and others who are experienced in masters level learning. This leads to productive learning sessions where knowledge is shared between colleagues with different experiences. This is also a credit to the course leader who again manages to cater for all needs.
'I have thoroughly enjoyed this course and look forward to continuing my studies.'
