This course is for experienced in-service teachers of TESOL who wish to gain a postgraduate qualification. Participants work as part of an international community of teachers via on-line discussion.

This course improves your ability to
• evaluate critically areas of the TESOL profession’s theory and practice
• extend your knowledge and understanding in specialist areas
• complete a research project related to your working situation

You study core areas such as
• language analysis
• testing and evaluation
• teacher education
• teaching English for academic purposes

You also focus on an area of TESOL relevant to your teaching and explore it further through research, usually based in your own workplace. This research is normally useful to you in your professional development and in your workplace.

There is also the option of studying for a PgCert Teaching English for Academic Purposes

This course offers flexible learning opportunities with the option to take breaks between stages.

Assessment

• continuous assessment of on-line assignments • a classroom based portfolio (stage one) • 6,000 word project and a 6,000 word literature report (stage two) • a 12,000–15,000 word research dissertation (stage three)
