Develop your knowledge and skills as sonographer on a course that is validated by the Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education (CASE).
On this course, you
• develop your analytical and evaluative skills and promotes your ability to relate these skills to safe practice

You are assessed on your clinical competence in these areas through a professional portfolio in clinical competence. This approach to assessment enables student sonographers to monitor and document their progressive development in all aspects of the sonographer’s role. The portfolio form depends on qualification you are studying for.
Whatever your professional background this course is designed to be tailored to your needs. It develops the ultrasound scanning skills for a range of professionals including allied health professionals, midwives, nurses, GPs and medics.

• MSc/PgDip Medical Ultrasound
• PgCert in Obstetrics and Related Gynaecological Ultrasound Practice
• PgCert in Abdominal Ultrasound Practice
• PgCert in Gynaecological Ultrasound Practice
• PgCert in Focused Scope of Ultrasound Practice
Studying individual modules
You can study individual modules from this course and gain academic credit towards a qualification.
For example, the ultrasound module provides the theoretical underpinning and clinical competencies in a narrow area of ultrasound. This module can be tailored to a range of ultrasound practice and is suitable for a range of practitioners. Examples include first trimester ultrasound scanning, deep vein thrombosis scanning, head and neck ultrasound and musculoskeletal ultrasound. You are assessed by the course team.

The teaching, learning and assessment strategy has recently been enhanced by investment in a state-of-the-art ultrasound training simulator that enables an innovative approach to developing and assessing clinical ultrasound skills.
Related courses
Part-time – normally one or two years to certificate and diploma level respectively, plus a dissertation for masters
For the postgraduate certificate and diploma routes, you attend on a day release basis, normally a Tuesday. The stand alone modules use a blended approach to learning with a mixture of taught sessions and distance learning.
Full awards start in September, the stand alone modules start in September and January.
