About this course

The Graduate Diploma in Business and English is a pre-masters course, designed for international students (non-native speakers of English) intending to complete postgraduate studies in business, management, finance or related studies.

It improves your English language proficiency and business knowledge to a level which allow you entry onto selected postgraduate courses. The course provides an equal balance of English language development and knowledge of business, management and finance.

Successfully completing the course, enables you to choose from a range of postgraduate courses to suit your interests and career development needs. These are available at Sheffield Hallam and other academic institutions .

Course content

Semester one

The first semester focuses on English language development. The modules you study are • general and academic English language • business skills • strategic management.

Semester two

Semester two builds your business knowledge with further English language development. The modules you study are • strategic management • global business • international business finance • marketing.

Assessment

• coursework • project work • individual assignments • group projects • oral presentations • timed assessments

Entry requirements

This course is for you if
• you hold a qualification not classed as equivalent to a UK undergraduate degree
• your undergraduate grades are lower than the minimum needed for direct entry on to a masters course
• your English skill is less than IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL internet-based 87. These are the minimum standard for entry on to postgraduate business and finance courses.

To study this course, you must have an English language skill of at least IELTS 5.5 with 5.5 minimum score in all skill areas and
• three year diploma in a relevant subject
• two year diploma (or equivalent) with relevant work experience
• five years professional experience

If your English language skill is currently below IELTS 5.5 we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English score in order to progress onto the Graduate Diploma in Business and English. Students who pass a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course will receive a 10% discount on the course fee for the Graduate Diploma in Business and English.
