About this course
This is a flexible programme of study which allows you to tailor your learning to meet your needs or those of your organisation. It is for those wishing to build on existing skills and experience or who want to change direction.
The optional modules available enable you to choose from a range of management topics.
We recruit throughout the year and because of the programmes flexibility you can organise your study to fit in with your personal and work-related commitments.
You can take individual modules with or without academic assessment, or you can take an arranged course of study with academic assessment. This would lead to a postgraduate award in leadership and management at masters, diploma or certificate level, depending on your requirements.

The fees for the programme and workshop are based on a pay-as-you go arrangement at the point of delivery.

Postgraduate certificate
The nature of management
This introductory module looks at the increasing level of change within the business environment and the conditions in which organisations operate. It also helps you to become familiar with the distance learning format and to get used to learning in this way.
Organisations and people
You gain a wide perspective on the complex relationships between people, organisations and the environment. You explore the influence a manager can have on peoples feelings, behaviour and performance at work. You develop your understanding of organisational behaviour and human resource management theory and practice. This gives you the confidence to make informed decisions about managing people.
Leadership and strategy for change
Managing change is increasingly important. To be effective, leaders and managers need to be able to manage and lead strategic change. You explore these issues and develop your analytical skills. You can then understand the complexities of implementing systems in a changing organisational world.

Postgraduate diploma
Management research methods
You prepare for your dissertation and gain the skills to interpret and evaluate published research. You develop your knowledge of methodological and philosophical issues in research. You learn to design a research project, and to select, justify and implement appropriate research methods.
Work-based learning or two option modules
The work-based learning module provides an opportunity for you to apply the experience, knowledge and understanding of management areas you have developed in your study so far. You analyse and present what you have learned by producing a detailed report.

The dissertation allows you to enhance your personal and professional development by completing in-depth and independent study into leadership and management.
Assessment
Varies depending on the modules selected. The most common form is continuous assessment by assignments related to your organisation.
Entry requirements
Normally you need one of the following
a good first degree
an equivalent recognised professional qualification, in any discipline and substantial knowledge, experience and skills in a relevant field.
We consider applicants without a first degree on the basis of their professional and work experience and any other formal qualifications that they hold.
If English is not your first language you need an IELTS score of 6.0 with 5.5 in all areas.
The course uses our procedures for accreditation of prior learning. This allows us to take appropriate masters level credits into account towards the postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma and masters awards.
