About this course
This course is for people involved, or interested in becoming involved, in coaching and mentoring. They may be • coaches or mentors • senior managers interested in developing their skills or those of their employees • independent consultants • scheme designers and evaluators.
Coaching and mentoring are now seen as important aids in organisations. Coupled with this rise in interest is a greater concern with evaluation and accreditation of mentoring and coaching activity.
In particular, coaches and mentors are under greater scrutiny in their ability to add value in coaching and mentoring contexts. These might include private businesses and public and voluntary organisations.
This course gives you opportunities to add and improve skills in these areas as well as engaging with the latest thinking in coaching and mentoring research.
The course will be attractive to the specialists devoting much of their time to coaching and mentoring. It is also for managers and others who wish to think through the implications of these important forms of activity for change in their organisation.
By drawing on the most recent research and the experience of consultants and in-house practitioners, this course combines innovation with relevance.
There are four modules each year, each usually lasting four days. You study coaching and mentoring theory and practice and how coaching and mentoring can be a central part of organisational change. Most assignments are work-based, so it delivers value to sponsoring organisations from day one.
Careers and next steps include coaching and mentoring practice, independent external consultancy, scheme design and evaluation.
Associated careers
The course should be attractive to people who
• are internal or external consultants who wish to extend their knowledge and strengthen their technical abilities
• have organisational experience after graduating in business and management, or in the social or natural sciences, and who now wish to develop as change agents
• are already working in areas of coaching and mentoring and who wish to broaden or strengthen their skill in the principles and practice
• are managers or directors who recognise the need for a fuller and more self-critical awareness of current developments in management thinking
