This module runs parallel to all other modules to support you throughout your studies. You develop your practical and key skills through workshops, integrated with the development of facilities management knowledge.

The organisation and facilities management
You explore the nature of facilities management and it's application. You get an overview of it's development and the skills required by those in the facilities management field.

Managing services and resources
You learn about the relationship between service culture, service delivery processes and procedures, and the resource implications and risk of delivering services.

Managing people
You develop an awareness and understanding of the issues surrounding managing people. You consider the formal human resource procedures and processes within organisations. You look at your own experiences, and the impact they have had on you and your own organisation.

Managing premises and the work environment
You study the place of business, and look at the traditional concerns of property and estate management. You also consider the impact of space occupation and use on the core business of the organisation.

Stage two modules

Managing projects for facilities managers
Facilities managers need to act as project managers for a range of projects, from small internal moves to major building works. This module considers the project management process from beginning to end.

Change management
You learn about the changing nature of organisations. You look at the impact change has on people in an organisation, the impact of organisational culture, and the tools and techniques available for managing
change.

Finance management
You look at the role of finance and financial management principles within the context of facilities management.

Information management and communications
You develop an understanding of information management, including communications, marketing, managing data and FM data management tools. You also look at your own experiences of information management and communication and the affect these have had on your own workplace.

Risk management

You examine risk analysis and management techniques, and gain detailed knowledge of issues such as assurance, corporate social responsibility, sustainability and business continuity.

The business environment
