We designed this course for people who are working in a planning, regeneration, housing, environmental or other built environment field and who would like to go back to education to get a degree and become a professional planner. You may be a • technician • administrator • enforcement officer • trainee • planning assistant.

The course is practice-oriented with a strong academic and theoretical basis. You gain a thorough foundation in spatial planning and the opportunity specialise in specific areas of planning including • regeneration • urban design • environmental issues.

You also develop the communication, strategic thinking and analytical skills needed to work at a professional level.

The course involves a large amount of project and practice-oriented work, including study visits outside Sheffield. You are encouraged to draw on your work experience in completing assignments.

Our staff have planning expertise in a range of areas and many of them have worked in the public and private sectors, which means they can help provide real projects for you to work on.

This course provides partial accreditation by the Royal Town Planning Institute. We also run a Master in Urban and Environmental Planning which is fully accredited. At the end of the course you can transfer onto the Masters in Urban and Environmental Planning.
