This course

This course is the first year of our extended degree programme for biosciences and chemistry. It allows you to study a degree if you do not have the usual A level or equivalent qualifications. It is also open to people over 21 years old who have not studied at A level but can show the commitment and motivation to complete one of our degrees.

Successfully completing this preparatory year allows you to continue on one of the following

BSc (Honours) Chemistry
BSc (Honours) Biochemistry
BSc (Honours) Biology
BSc (Honours) Biomedical Sciences
BSc (Honours) Human Biology
BSc (Honours) Forensic Science

You are also eligible to apply for the BSc (Honours) Secondary Education in Science with Qualified Teacher Status. Entry to the teaching course is subject to interview.

Our preparatory course introduces the basics of biological and chemical sciences, so you do not need any previous knowledge of the modules you study. You also gain important laboratory skills from practical classes and we help you develop the IT and interpersonal skills needed for degree level study.

We provide all the necessary support, and use a mixture of teaching and learning methods, to develop the skills and knowledge you need to gain an honours degree.
