What is nutrition, health and lifestyles?
Good nutrition and healthy lifestyles are essential to positive well-being. Given the increase in obesity and obesity-related diseases, this subject area is relevant for individuals who want to learn about how nutrition and lifestyle choices can impact the health of individuals, athletes and various populations.

Throughout the course you gain expertise in dietary analysis and learn how to carry out practical activities such as blood pressure testing and measuring body composition. Using these skills and computer software, you analyse the diets of individuals and populations.  These skills can then be applied to future jobs, research and further study.

You are taught by a lecturing team with professional experience in public health nutrition, community health development, GP referral schemes, personal training and health promotion.

You also gain the perspectives of external speakers with specialist expertise such as company nutritionists from Kellogg’s and Morrisons, researchers from the Centre of Sport and Exercise Science, public health nutritionists and professional sports clubs, who give guest lectures throughout the course.

As well as developing your theoretical knowledge with seminars and lectures, you also work on projects in the laboratory and kitchen, learning how to apply what you’ve learnt. You get experience of using a wide range of equipment such as specialist sensory facilities, feeding facilities and sports equipment designed for performance improvement.

In your final year, you present a stall at our Nutrition Fair. This event is open to the general public, staff and students and simulates a realistic working situation.
