Develop an understanding of how people behave in organisations and how to get the best out of them in the workplace. You learn about all aspects of business but develop an expertise in human resource management from lecturers who are specialist consultants to major organisations. You can also take a paid work placement in year three at a major company such as Rolls-Royce or Hewlett Packard.

What is business and human resource management?
In todays fast moving knowledge economy, people are the key to competitive success. Human resource management is about developing policies, processes and management approaches to identify and develop human potential, and harness it to meet organisational goals.
About this course
Study how organisations can succeed through the effective management of people on this career-focused course. You learn a broad range of core business skills including marketing, finance and law, enabling you to work in various business roles and areas. You also gain specialist knowledge of human resource management.
Your teaching team can offer you the latest insights into human resource management because they are engaged in cutting edge research and consultancy. Lecturers also work for large clients such as South Yorkshire Police, Fosters Bakery and Barnsley Primary Care Trust on coaching and mentoring, and knowledge transfer partnerships. This means that you learn from up-to-date cases and examples from the real world.
You get the chance to apply what youve learnt in year three with a paid work placement, designed to increase your industry knowledge, skills and employability. Due to our strong relationships with regional and national employers and the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development, we can offer you a range of excellent placement employers such as Ronseal Enterprise Rent-A-Car Bosch Janssen Cilag Hewlett Packard Metropolitan Police Mercedes Benz.
If you do not complete a placement, you learn from other employment experiences in the work-based learning module.
The range of topics you study prepares you for a successful career in diverse industries and roles. Your specialist knowledge of human resource management can open up career paths in management positions.

As well as core business areas such as marketing, finance and law, you develop a specialist knowledge of human resource management topics such as employee learning and development performance management and leadership employee relations talent management.

As a graduate, you can enter a wide range of human resource-related careers. Many students go on to management training schemes in large companies or junior management positions in smaller organisations.

Entry requirements
2014 entry requirements
We expect you to demonstrate through your personal statement an interest in and awareness of business/human resource management or some level of practical experience.
Normally, five GCSEs at grade C or above including English language and mathematics, plus one of the following
300 points including at least 160 points from two GCE/VCE A levels or BTEC National qualifications or one AVCE double award. We accept general studies. Key Skills qualifications are not included.
Access an Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 credits at level 3 and at least 15 at level 2. At least 15 level 3 credits must be at merit grade or above, from a QAA-recognised Access to HE course, or an equivalent Access to HE certificate
If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each skill.
If you do not have any of the qualifications above but have relevant experience, you are welcome to discuss potential opportunities with the admissions tutor.
