Change is an essential and unavoidable part of modern business. The introduction of new technology can play an important part in making changes to a business. Technology-enabled change influences the way a business is organised and the way in which people work within that business to benefit the organisation.
This business information systems' course gives you knowledge of how to bring about business benefits through technology-enabled change as well as developing your problem solving and communication skills.
The three key roles in an IT change project are project manager, business integrator or systems analyst. The course prepares you for working in one of the roles by giving you
business problems to solve using IT solutions
case studies from real businesses to examine
highly focused and relevant modules on technology-enabled change
a placement year where you can apply knowledge and skills
The placement year demonstrates the results you can bring to a business, and can be important in helping inform your career choice. You develop skills which increase your appeal to employers. Often students return to their placement organisation after graduation.
Previous students have completed placements at large, international companies such as Eli Lilly Lloyds Banking Group Procter and Gamble GlaxoSmithKline Nestlι Xerox IBM Cummins HSBC or with government bodies such as DASA Ministry of Defence NHS RAF HQ Strike Command.
We designed the course to emphasise practical problem solving and business information systems management from creation through to implementation. We value your academic achievements as well as the skills you can demonstrate on entry to the course. This is reflected in our admissions policy.
We base the course at our award winning City Campus, which houses our computing laboratories and learning centre facilities.
