• a good degree (2.1) or equivalent in a subject that requires a high level of discursive writing and critical analysis and is relevant human resources such as history, geography and international business
• professional equivalent
We may consider you without a first degree if you have the necessary experience and can demonstrate an ability to complete the course.
Overseas applicants from countries whose first language is not English must normally produce evidence of competence in English. An IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in all skills (or equivalent) is the standard for non-native speakers of English. If your English language skill is currently below an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in all skills we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English level.

`In my experience, the best and most challenging aspect of the course is the interaction in class. The tutors frequently ask questions about HR in your own country and ask you to express your opinions. We learnt a lot about the attitudes towards international human resource management (IHRM) by this method. They also give all students feedback, analysing the reasons why problems are caused and recommending solutions.
`The course is very practical, the tutors use current issues in IHRM to support the content of the classes and share their own HR experiences to assist us in understanding the issues. It covers a broad range of subjects, such as financial analysis, information systems, contemporary issues concerning IHRM, organisational learning and development, performance and reward management and leadership. There is also a residential to prepare you for employment in the field of IHRM.
`There is lots of support available at Sheffield Hallam, such as the International student support team and the Careers and Employment services which helps you to develop your employability and career management skills. I have also taken English language classes which were very helpful in improving my English language skills, especially my written English.'
