Built Environment Research Group
The Built Environment Research Group (BERG) develop high quality research and scholarship to underpin the Faculty's excellent reputation in built environment teaching and learning, and to continually improve its position among the new universities as a centre of excellence in built environment applied research.
Group members have received major international awards for research and its dissemination and excellence in scholarship.
The Group embraces staff from each of the three academic subject groups
- construction, cost and surveying
- architecture
- property appraisal and development
Research themes include
- construction management systems and procedures
- environmental science and building design
- planning law and property valuation
The group supports 17 research students, six HEI career-track bursary students and has undertaken over £1 million of research contracts over the last five years. Staff have a strong reputation within the worldwide research communities, with typical activities including
- editorial board membership of premier peer-reviewed research journal
- chairmanship of international conference committees
- membership of overseas research grant councils
A five year research strategy (2007-2013) supports the achievement of excellence in academic provision through targeted applied research.
