About the Built Environment Research Group
The Built Environment Research Group is the focus for
- research
- scholarship
- postgraduate research
- academic and industry-based consultancy
Evidence from student research surveys confirm the effectiveness of the research environment. Between 2008 and 2013 the University is investing £12 million in a new brown-field development, within which a dedicated postgraduate research student complex, staff research suite and postgraduate resource room will be provided. This reflects a £400,000 investment in research activities. In addition, £500,000 is to be invested in a new architecture-HUB, of which a proportion will support environmental science and design research.
The aim, strategy and objectives are embedded within subject groups. This ensures that research, scholarship and dissemination are co-ordinated, work-planned and directly underpin teaching and learning activities in addition to driving research outputs.
The key drivers of the research strategy are
- academic subject group leaders
- heads of research within the subject group
- the head of research and postgraduate research tutor
The academic environment for postgraduate research students is of high quality, well supported by qualified and experienced teams of supervisors and augmented by the University's Learning and Teaching Institute, computing and IT facilities.
