Equipment

The BMRC currently has the following equipment. We offer training in all the instrumentation listed. Customers can also book time on our equipment with or without technical assistance, which is charged at an hourly rate*.

Equipment type Description
Bacterial fermentor systems Can be used for growing bacteria or yeast organisms in batch or continuous culture
ÄKTA automated protein purification system for purification at 4° Fully automated computer controlled system for the purification of proteins, where temperature sensitivity is an issue
ÄKTA automated protein purification system for purification at room temperature Fully automated computer controlled system for the purification of proteins
Biacore Label-free interaction analysis used for pharmaceutical drug discovery, antibody characterisation, proteomics and immunogenicity studies
Electrophysiology suite Automated system for patch clamp analysis of study of single or multiple ion channels in cells.
Environmental test chambers Growth chambers with variable temperature, O2, CO2 and humidity settings
Flow cytometer (FACScalibur) Used for cell analysis and sorting, with 2 laser/4 colour analysis system
GC For separating and analysing compounds that can be vaporized without decomposition
GC-MS For separating and analysing compounds, the mass spectrometer components allows for identification of target molecules
GC-MS with probe for solid analysis Can be used for the separation and identification of compounds in a solid sample
ICP-MS For ion quantitation of solutions down to ppb levels
ICP-OES For ion quantitation of solutions down to ppm levels
Ion chromatography For separation of ions and polar molecules based on their charge, useful for halogen ion analysis which is not possible using the ICP systems
LC-MS For separating and analysis compounds, particular useful in aqueous solutions
Li-cor odyssey infra red imager Near infrared fluorescence detection for western blot analysis and protein detection
Microscopy suite Our microscopy suite contains and Olympus fluorescent microscope, and inverted fluorescent microscope and a laser scanning confocal microscope. Can be used to analyse a variety of stained tissue, cell or bacterial samples
NMR To determine physical, chemical, electronic and structural information of molecules
Portrait 630 non contact matrix spotter Fully automated non-contact, nozzle-free acoustic droplet ejection system optimised to deposit MALDI matrix and other reagents onto tissue sections and other samples for precision MALDI imaging mass spectrometry.
Q-Star Mass spectrometer coupled to MALDI ion source which allows MALDI-MS/MS-MS profiling and imaging of molecules within the range of 0 to 3000 Da, from a variety of samples.
Qstar Pulsar 1 LC-MS/MS Coupled to an electrospray ion source for seperation and characterisation of target molecules
Stepone Real time PCR machine Measures amplification of DNA as it occurs, cycle by cycle, allowing for precise and quantitative measurements during the exponential phase of PCR.
Sun Collect matrix spotter HPLC effluent touch-off spotter for MALDI target spotting
Synapt G2 MALDI MS Combined QuanTof and enhanced High Definition MS technologies, gives high resolution exact mass MS/MS analysis capabilities
Tecan automated liquid handling robot with integrated fluorescent plate reader As our system is linked to a plate reader, this system is particularly useful for automated processing of ELISA systems
Voyager DE-Pro MS Coupled to MALDI ion source which allows MALDI-MS profiling and imaging of target molecules in the range of 0 to 300,000 Da
Xcise automated gel cutting system For automated spot picking and purification from SDS-PAGE gels, can also be used to automatically spot purified peptides onto MALDI-MS plates
