Cultural, Communication and Computing Research Institute (C3RI)

The Cultural, Communication and Computing Research Institute (C3RI) is Sheffield Hallam University's largest and highest rated community of researchers.

C3RI includes two research centres - the Art and Design Research Centre, and the Communication and Computing Research Centre - and is part of the Lab4Living collaborative research group with the Centre for Health and Social Care Research.

Our activities include

  • research and consultancy services for business, public authorities, Government departments and cultural industries
  • doctoral and post-doctoral research in fine art, new product development, industrial design, design policy and management, the applied arts, cultural theory, computing and communications
  • pioneering work in practice-centred and applied design research
  • creative practice in the fine arts, applied arts and design of the highest international standard
  • active commitment to the development of an international research community in all fields of our work

Our key objective is to define a new vision of research based creativity in the service of society, culture and economy.

C3RI also houses a Yorkshire Forward Centre for Industrial Collaboration - Design Futures - which provides leading packaging and product design expertise, and offers the latest professional development for individuals and groups of staff through The Training Foundry.
