Background

Roger has worked at many levels within the design industry – as a freelance designer, a design director and as a design business owner. He has worked in Spain and the UK and taught in the UK (Liverpool, Leeds, Edinburgh) Spain (Eina and IED Barcelona) He returned to the UK in 2010, having been Associate Professor and Head of Design at the Unitec Design School in Auckland.

Roger is currently Leader of the MA Design Programme at Sheffield Hallam University - the Programme covers Product Design, Packaging Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Metalwork and Jewellery, Interior and Fashion Design. His research interests include pedagogic practice, product innovation through sustainable design and design for health and wellbeing. Roger is a strong advocate of integrating research and practice into teaching and learning and to this end the MA Design Programme works closely with the ADRC, International Universities, communities, manufacturers, researchers and practitioners within a variety of disciplines. 

Roger is a business mentor in the Sheffield Hallam University new business start-up incubator focusing on developing small enterprises within the creative industries. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, has exhibited widely and Internationally and his work has been published in journals, magazines, books and on the www.
