Bronwen Maxwell is deputy head of the Centre for Education and Inclusion Research and a principal lecturer in professional development in education.
Bronwen's research interests include teacher development, initial training, early career development and continuing professional development (CPD), whole school workforce development, partnership working, 14-19 education and teaching and learning in the post-compulsory education and training (PCET) sector. She is also interested in the policy aspects of teacher development, 14-19 and post-compulsory education and training.
She has experience of research leadership including national case study research into the impact of e-learning within further education (FE) on behalf of the then Department for Education and Skills (DfES), and is currently leading an evaluation of the national leadership and management development programme for 14-19 Diploma consortia on behalf of the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) / National College for School Leadership (NCSL). Bronwen has experience of qualitative and quantitative methods and is particularly interested in the use of mixed methods to provide different perspectives on research topics.
Before moving to the research centre, Bronwen led the Masters in Professional Development in Education Programme, and continues to lead the Masters route in post-compulsory education and training. Bronwen has many years experience of leadership and teaching in higher education, further education and adult and community education. Current teaching includes research and evaluation methods, mentoring in the PCET context, PCET policy and practice and research supervision.
Building on her own experience as a practitioner researcher, Bronwen is particularly interested in supporting practitioners to undertake research that develops their own or their organisations' practices. Bronwen has extensive experience of initial teacher training in the PCET sector, undertakes inspections of PCET initial teacher training on behalf of Ofsted and is a Fellow of the Institute for Learning.
