Christina is a principal research fellow in CRESR and is the co-ordinator of the data analysis and policy team. She has extensive experience of working on large scale data intensive research projects especially in the field of economic geography, the analysis of labour markets and understanding the changing nature of male and female participation in the workforce. She's particularly interested in the geographic impact of welfare reform and how policy decisions impact on different types of places.
Whilst at CRESR she has built a substantial body of work with Stephen Fothergill concerning the changing dynamics of the economic inactivity and unemployment especially in relation to the growth in incapacity benefit claimants, estimating hidden unemployment and utilising labour market accounting techniques. This work has included a number of large scale Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) grants looking at these phenomena in a variety of contexts including the coalfields, rural areas and seaside towns.
