Welcome to the Centre for Science Education

The Centre for Science Education (CSE) is a research and business development unit specialising in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects, but in particular, science.

CSE creates, manages and delivers resources, projects and initiatives to support teachers and students at all levels of education.

The main aspects of our work are

  • curriculum development
  • continuing professional development (CPD)
  • research and evaluation
  • regional enhancement and enrichment activity
  • consultancy

In its work the centre strives to raise young people's engagement in science and progression to further study and careers in STEM. Our vision is 'Creativity that works', reflecting a passionate belief that by inspiring and capturing the imagination of youngsters they will be motivated towards science careers and qualifications. But creativity has to work, allowing all young people to reach their highest levels of attainment.

CSE is a hub for regional STEM activity, housing the Regional Science Learning Centre, SETPOINT South Yorkshire and has close partnerships with the Regional STEM Support Centre, National Centre for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics (NCETM) and secondary initial teaching training at Sheffield Hallam University.
