Facilities

The centre is situated on the ninth floor of Owen Building at the City Campus and is housed within a variety of general and specialised rooms, attractively refurbished for the purpose.

As well as the friendly reception and office area adjoining the foyer outside the main elevators, the centre comprises the following

  • two teaching laboratories, one designated as 'wet', the other 'dry'
  • a prep room for the above
  • a large well-appointed teaching/conference room with 10 desktop PCs
  • a teaching/meeting room that seats 16
  • a meeting room that seats eight
  • a small meeting/interview room that seats up to four
  • eight staff offices
  • a resources and storage area

The two teaching laboratories are well-equipped with the usual facilities you would find in a cutting edge science classrooms, including a fume cupboard, spectrometer, DNA fingerprinting, data loggers, sensor and software. We also have a wide variety of teaching resources, books and materials.

All the main teaching rooms have full networked ICT and audio-visual facilities, including interactive whiteboards and data projectors. Access to the university wireless network is provided throughout the centre. Laptop computers with generic and dedicated science education software are available for use in courses and events, as well as a range of other ICT and audio-visual equipment, including a mobile video-conference unit, digital video cameras, iPod Touch and iPads.
